"Ducasse labels Aux Lyonnais a "restaurant de tradition", and if all traditions were like this, everyone would be a traditionalist. The food looks as good as it tastes and everyone covetously eyes the dishes being brought to neighbouring tables. "

Les Magnolias In the suburbs, but an easy RER ride is rewarded by creative wizardry
Repaire de Cartouche Another bistro in La Régalade mould but a bit more central and a touch more space
Bombis Bistro Small neighbourhood bistro where the locals flock
L'Oulette A regular haunt, a modern neo bistro that's out in the sticks, but the careful cooking with south western influences makes it worthwhile
La Régalade This is everything a bistro should be and more - an accomplished chef sees to that
Astrance Exciting new opening almost in the shadow of the Eiffel tower
Chez Michel Enjoy Brittany dishes a stones throw from le Gare du Nord
Os à Moelle Another neighbourhood bistro with simple but high quality dishes
Jacques Melac Our watering hole for great country wines with character. The simple hearty bistro fayre is strongly recommended.
Au Trou Gascon The cooking is rooted in the South West and you get carefully prepared gutsy dishes with pleasant service

L'Alivi, on a corner, is a cute little bistro that specializes in Corsican cuisine, and all things Corsican, from the artwork on the walls to the spring water, to a very interesting selection of Corsican wines. The seafood selections are lovely, and a couple of interesting meat dishes as well. The ambience is very bistro-like, with about 20 tables.

On Sunday night, the choices will be much fewer, but a very cute place open Sundays is the Café du Trésor on the dead end rue du Trésor. For those wishing to sit outside with the pole heaters, you could brave it, but the inside is cozy and warm. The menu is small and selective but the food is terrific and simple. A very popular place with the natives.

"L'Absinthe makes the heart grow fonder." Definitely in the case of L'Absinthe, bistro chic et pas cher, another success from Michel Rostang, whose lovely daughter Caroline has set up shop with Laurent Montgillard at the pianos, Philippe Morel director du salle. No smoking guaranteed on the first floor.
What about the food? Menu at 28€ a la carte (starter main). Oeufs en cocotte, Gascony ham, paté de foie gras and canard en croute a l’ancienne, served with a basket of veg (very nice, 0 calories in the veg). Mains, Saint-Jacques d’Erquy, Haddock and an excellent encornet (squid) skewered with rosemary (sorry, Rosemary), rognons (kidneys) with macaroni, melting long cooked shoulder of lamb and a traditional oxtail pot-au-feu with everything but the kitchen sink. Cheese from Dubois and classic desserts such as riz au lait, millefeuilles.
