Welcome, oh hungry one...

Food : The meat of the matter is that we all need it on a daily basis to survive. But should its purpose be limited to survival? Food can be an immense source of pleasure, and the highlight of a day; how many hard days at the office have been soothed by a bowl of soup, or a piece of chocolate?

As Americans, we have developed an unhealthy relationship with eating. It is viewed as a necessary time waster, and given birth to endless streams of fast food joints all essentially identical in producing fast flavor-free food ; McDonalds, Wendy’s, Arby’s, Burger King.... Worse, food often seen as an enemy creating horrors as extreme as anorexia and as mundane as saccharine. With new scientific studies suggesting old friends such as wine and salt are not as bad for you as previously believed, and those same studies revealing the replacements may have dangers of their own, it might be time to take a hint from the slow food manifesto and return to the old fashioned craft of cooking ourselves a good healthy daily meal, made from real ingredients.

I’m not advocating a frolic in fat, but simply a return to making food from ingredients found in nature, rather than opening a box to "just add water." To that end, I offer a few of my favorite recipes, and a collection of sites I’ve found useful in reawakening my love of cooking. I’m not the first to advocate using this new technology (the web) to return to an ancient one (cooking); but if I am the first one you’ve found, let me be your guide...
