the cookies that worked

not so long ago I was going to a cookie swap. I made (or attempted to make) some cookies from my childhood. The meltaways were the only success. however, they were a tremendous success.

warning: these are from my great aunt peg, from Missouri, and I think they qualify as church lady cooking

1 cup butter or margarine
1-1/2 cup sifted confectioners sugar
1-1/2 cup flour
1 tsp. vanilla
3/4 cup chopped walnuts

  1. beat butter with 1/2 cup confectioners sugar until fluffylight. stir in flour, vanilla and nuts.
  2. roll dough, a level tsp at a time, into balls between palms of hands. place one inch apart on a lightly greased cookie sheet.
  3. bake in a moderate oven (350c) for 15 minutes or until firm. remove carefully from cookie sheet and while hot, roll in remaining confectioners sugar. Posted by christina at December 14, 2001 05:40 PM
